The top places to visit in the Bahamas are the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, Blue Holes National Park on Andros, Lucayan National Park on Grand Bahama, Harbour Island with North Eleuthera, and Inagua National Park. The country welcomed a record 12.5 million visitors in 2025, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, though 86.5% arrived by cruise ship and stopover visitors numbered more than 1.8 million.
- Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park — Leave the spear gun and shell bag at home: fishing, shelling and conching are all banned, and wardens patrol from the headquarters on Warderick Wells with Defence Force officers. The park has been a no-fishing replenishment zone since 1985, and the Bahamas National Trust (BNT), which runs it, calls it “the first Land and Sea Park in the world”. It is also the country’s most visited national park.
- Blue Holes National Park, Andros — Swim in Captain Bill’s Blue Hole, but expect to work harder to stay afloat; the top layer is fresh water, which the BNT warns is less buoyant than the sea. A short trail ends at a gazebo with a ledge over the water for the park’s “Leap of Faith”, or a staircase if you would rather climb in. No island has more blue holes than Andros, by the BNT’s account, and the park covers 22 inland ones.
- Lucayan National Park, Grand Bahama — Buy the BNT day pass ($15 for adults aged 15 to 59; children and seniors pay less). At Ben’s Cave, steps drop to platforms at the waterline, the way into more than 6 miles of charted underwater tunnels; a diving biologist found a previously unknown class of crustaceans, the remipedes, here in the late 1970s. Finish at Gold Rock Beach, billed by the BNT as “The Welcome Mat of Grand Bahama”. The tourism ministry says the island’s arrivals passed one million in 2025 for the first time in more than 22 years.
- Harbour Island and North Eleuthera — Fly to North Eleuthera Airport (Bahamasair lists a route from Nassau), then cross to Harbour Island, which the official Bahamas tourism site calls “Accessible only by boat or ferry”. Stay for Pink Sands Beach, though the same site says pink sand also covers more than 35 miles of mainland Eleuthera. Drive north for a day to the Glass Window Bridge, where Eleuthera is only 30 feet wide, with the Atlantic on one side. Book early: the tourism ministry says Eleuthera recorded nearly 30% growth in 2025.
- Inagua National Park — Pack binoculars: the endemic Inagua woodstar hummingbird and the Bahama parrot live inland, and herons and spoonbills gather around Lake Windsor. Confirm travel dates with the BNT’s New Providence or Inagua office before booking flights. The Trust puts Inagua’s West Indian flamingos at about 70,000 birds, the species’ largest breeding colony anywhere.
Planning note
The US National Hurricane Center puts the Atlantic hurricane season at June 1 to November 30, with most activity from mid-August to mid-October. According to the Nassau Guardian, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in central Long Island on 29 October 2025 as a Category 1 storm, with hurricane-force winds from Ragged Island to San Salvador; nearly 1,500 residents of the central and southern islands evacuated, and Inagua was under a government order to leave. Route through Nassau: about two-thirds of 2025’s stopover visitors stayed on Nassau/Paradise Island, and Bahamasair, the national airline, is based there.
