Quick answer

Is an open-jaw flight worth it for a multi-city trip?

It can be worthwhile when returning to the arrival city would add a long backtrack, but compare the fare and ground transport before booking.

An open-jaw route arrives in one city and departs from another. It is most useful when the itinerary naturally moves in one direction and the final city has a practical airport.

Price the complete journey, including the transfer to the second airport and any extra lodging. A lower airfare is not automatically a lower trip cost.
