Quick answer

What is the best time to visit South America?

May–September is ideal (Southern Hemisphere winter/spring) for Peru, Argentina, and Chile; December–March is summer but brings crowds and higher prices.

Machu Picchu and the Andes are best visited May–October when rainfall is lower and skies are clearer. Amazon and jungle regions are accessible year-round but muddy in rainy season (November–April).

Southern Hemisphere seasons are opposite Northern Hemisphere: June–August is their winter but offers excellent weather in Patagonia and the Andes.
